Lone Wolf

This past weekend Josh and I took Lilly to the park, just like we do most weekends. We took a long walk around the pond at Old Settler's, felt like creepers as we commented on every one's backyards we could see straight into, and played with Lilly. Josh also took a million pictures of everything around. It was a nice Sunday afternoon, spent relaxing, while enjoying each other and a pretty day. On our way to the parking lot, it all changed.

A BEAUTIFUL Border Collie began following us to the car. He proceeded to then stop in the middle of the parking lot, causing a traffic issue. I didn't want him to get hit by a car, so I called him to come to me. He then decided to jump into the car with us. Since this is not an every day occurrence for us, it took us a moment to determine what to do with him. We found a number on his collar and were greeted with a voicemail telling us we had reached Austin Canine Control. "What???" We were quite perplexed about whether this was a shelter dog or if we called the cell of someone who worked at a shelter and had a dog of her own. Since she wasn't returning our calls, Josh ran the dog (Ace, according to his collar), around the park looking for an owner. No owner was found, but a bond was formed. Josh fell in love with this dog! He has wanted a bigger dog for quite a while. In his mind he was hoping we would keep him, in my mind, I was desperately seeking an owner!

Finally we gave in and called the Round Rock animal shelter to come pick him up. We left the officer with our number and strict instructions NOT to euthanize him! If he wasn't claimed or adopted, we would take him (much to Josh's delight). However, after 4 hours worrying about Ace and praying for him at that scary shelter, the owner FINALLY returned our call. Apparently Ace was 11 and deaf. He managed to get away from her and he wouldn't respond to her calling him. She said he's not usually very trusting of people, so it was a huge shock to her that he jumped in the car with us. It was such a relief to find out this lone wolf... or dog... had a good, loving home. While this whole ordeal definitely threw a kink in our Sunday plans, it was an adventure, and we made a new furry friend!
