Memorial Day 2015

We have been trying to get to Boerne since about the time Kassidy was born. Sadly, we haven't been since last September. Between having a newborn, sickness with Samantha, my grandfather being in the hospital and all the chaos of normal life, we just haven't made it down there. this week and we finally got to go!

Luckily, we decided to go up on Friday afternoon and we were able to beat all of the crazy storms. That night, we went to dinner with some people from my parents' church. This place had an outside playground and it was a lot of fun watching Samantha play with her peers. Saturday we never left the house because of the insane rain. In a matter of a few hours, my parents got 8 inches of rain at their house. Luckily they live hi, so there wasn't ever a risk of flooding. However they did have a nice little river going through their front pasture that isn't normally there. It also messed up the road to their house that they just had repaved a month ago. Sunday, we were able to make it to church that we had to drive through a few flooded areas to get there. There were a lot of floods in their area. All along the roads people's fences were simply gone, cars were misplaced, roads were destroyed and houses were flooded. Some of my parents' neighbors had to stay in hotels that night because they weren't home when the rain started and couldn't make it back. I know it was worse in other areas like Wimberley.

We were worried on Sunday we wouldn't be able to drive home, but luckily with only a few detours, we made it in one piece! We made a pit stop for our cranky toddler at the cutest frozen yogurt place in Dripping Springs.

Little did we know that our experience with crazy weather had just started. Monday we spent the afternoon and evening with more storms raging around us and the power out. I'm definitely more appreciative for my electricity today!! But again, many people around us had it much worse with flooding and damage.

It was not the way we planned to spend our Memorial Day weekend, but it definitely left some memories!
